First quarter of this year 2014 was gone now. And for this second quarter (April-June 2014), JW Marriott Hotel Medan will publish the second JW dimension issue for this year 2014. This booklet consists of all the promotions that they offer for this period of time. You will find lots of information about their promotions from Easter, Mothers Day, Kids promotion to their new menu.

The photo session was conducted on the first week of March. We started it with a French Cuisine and Dessert session. The chef prepared 2 sets of dessert for this specific photo session, one for practicing and one for the actual session. This is a great idea because the session requiring the chef’s hand pouring the chocolate on top of it. So, we have to figure out where is the best position to pour it, and when and how fast for it to look good as a whole. It didn’t take long for the actual session, but the preparation, setting up and finding the location took sometime before we decided to start the process. You can see several of the photos from the whole process including the practice and the final piece.

After the dessert, we move on to the new French menu which is Schnitzel and also steak for Prime Steakhouse. This is pretty straightforward session, since all I need is just finding the great angle and lighting to make it looks interesting. For the schnitzel, I tried to climb high and taking it from high-up for more dramatic photo. Both photos using window light (natural light) which is the most affordable light and the most suitable lighting style for this still-life.

Since, most of the photo session I did with them, their designer always around to make sure the photos will be suitable for what he will use to design the booklet. So, in this issue, the cover photo will be using the small replica of Batak traditional house which they sell it in their gift shop. Here are some of the photos of the traditional house.

After that we took a lunch break, and to save some time, they asked me to join and have a buffet lunch at Marriott Cafe. A great lunch with lots of great and delicious selections. Then we continued with taking photos of the new menu offering at Prime Steakhouse ‘Steamboat’, and also the Easter Holiday which is basically full of sweets like chocolate with egg and bunny shape.

As for Mothers day promotion, the concept is Mothers Day Brunch which consist of one executive woman as a mom of 2 kids. It was a bit difficult part for the whole session, since the female kid was a bit hard to deal with and very shy and even refuse to do it. But, thankfully after quite some time, she agreed to have her photo taken.

By the time we finished that part, all the kids had arrived and ready for their photo session just beside the swimming pool. This is for their new ‘Kids eat free’ promotion when family stay at JW Marriott Hotel Medan. You will probably still remember these kids since they are the same from last year photo session for Christmas 2013 (here). They are a natural model and very expressive in front of the camera. The fact that I met them before also helped during the whole session. We started from just asking them to sit and relax on the pool chair, and eating watermelon by the pool and lastly eating french fries pair with orange juice. It was a fun session, and the kids are very easy to work with, with the help of their parents which gave a great deal of help too.

We then move to the Gym room which is located at the same floor of the swimming pool. There are 2 people for this session, 1 guy as the personal trainer and the other girl as the trainee. We started from treadmill then the weight training. I would like to say thanks to both of them, since the treadmill part was a bit too long and it was a bit tiring for them to keep running while I try to get my best shoot. I think, they looks great here, what do you think?

Since we have a little bit of time, we also did several shoot for their Junior Suite room from every possible angle.

If you are interested in looking at the JW Dimension booklet, here I put the link for the PDF file (HERE).

This was a very long session and satisfying session for me personally, since we accomplished so many different shoot. We can achieve this also because of their preparedness for the whole thing and didn’t waste too much time on waiting to set up the food or scene.

Please stay tuned for my next photo session or my next trip stories. Hope you enjoy it!
