Happy New Year 2014! To start this year, I would like to show you behind the scene photoshoot that I did back from past December. After a successful photoshoot for JW Marriott Hotel Medan festive season edition (Check it out HERE), they requested me to do another one for their quarterly publication/booklet called ‘JW Dimensions’. Basically, the purpose of this photoshoot is to introduce and promote what’s new and happening during the month of January through March 2014 in the hotel. The first and most important event during this January will be Chinese New Year or ‘Spring Festival’. The photos that they want me to take are for their usual Chinese New Year Hamper (Marriott Gourmet), Nian Gao from Jade Restaurant (Chinese Traditional sweet snack cake, considered to be good luck when one eat it during Chinese New Year time). You can see the photos below:

In this new year, they are offering new menu for their restaurant, Prime, the Lounge, Jade and also Marriott Cafe. It’s a great opportunity for me to know their new menu before hand and witness how they presented, They look delicious and it was fun to do food photography, since I was surrounded with people who care about the food and how it was being photograph, so it really helps me to get great shoot and really make the food look delicious as how it taste. It was a very relax and fun photo session, a bit rush at times but enough for me to get all the best shoot and they are also happy with the result. They will offer Mexican menu and pair it with Caribbean Delight in Marriott Cafe. And to represent the spicy food taste of Mexican and Caribbean food, I also took photo of different type of spices used to prepare the food. Check out the photos below (All using natural/available light):

As for the Prime Steakhouse, they offer new cocktail and drinks for their reggae and Mexican fiesta theme. The hardest part in taking photo of glass is the reflection. I used lots of black cardboard to eliminate unnecessary reflection especially from the window opposite of the glass.

Lastly, the new menu for The Lounge. To compliment the offering of new Mexican menu, here hotel guest can order their new Mexican light bites while waiting in the Lounge area. As for the Cigar fans, you can have the best selection of cigar and pair it with Cognac. For the Cigar and Cognac shoot, I was actually thinking of light up the Cigar during the photo-shoot, but since the place where I did the photo-shoot is non-smoking area so that’s not gonna happen, but either way the result turn out great. Check out the photos below:

You can look at the final booklet version here with all the above photos incorporated in it below (Click to enlarge).

Please stay tuned for my next photoshoot or my next trip stories. Hope you enjoy it!
